I am at Qdoba more than Tracy, who moves between home and work, balancing our five-year-old son, Rylan, and some behind-the-scenes work, such as banking, office work at home and running errands.
When we are not running the franchise, we try to spend time together as a family. We have a cabin in Clear Lake, just north of Brandon, and we try to spend as much time there as we can. We like to hang out on the water or go fishing.
My wife and I both started running and I have gotten into triathlons, marathons and Ironman events. Exercise and fitness are good ways to re-energize and relieve stress.
A passion for the business
If you want to become a franchisee, you have to want to be in the business and work at it. You end up putting in a lot of time and energy, but the reward is a successful store with great product. When you find something you are interested in, you should be passionate about it. What struck me with Qdoba was the head office was so passionate about training us properly and about the details and daily things we did to make the customers’ experience a great one.
I feel very proud to be a Qdoba franchisee. We have so much support from everyone. We have employees who have stuck around right from the start, who smile when they come to work. We want to make sure all future staff has the same experience when they see we really care about the product we are making. The customer is spending hard-earned money and picking us. That is what keeps you going on a daily basis. It is a lot of hard work, but I am proud to see I have helped build something and am part of the community.
