Pita Pit Canada partnered with Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart program in 2012 and 2013 to help raise funds for the one in three kids whose parents cannot afford to enrol them in organized sports, judo, gymnastics, ballet and other healthy but costly activities. This cause is close to co-founder Lang’s heart, as he says he was “one of those kids myself.”
Franchisees threw themselves wholeheartedly into raising funds, inventing contests and games, running radio ads and holding car washes and bake sales. They went above and beyond the call of duty and, in the first month alone, they raised $100,000.
Two months later, they held an auction during their annual conference, where Abracadabra Signs & Designs in Ayr, Ont., donated a store sign kit worth approximately $6,000, which ended up helping raise $30,000.
Combined with sales of red Jumpstart balls and the ‘Resolution Solution’ healthy dining campaign, where a portion of daily deal sales went to Jumpstart, Pita Pit donated more than $215,000 over the two-year period. The company is now searching for more causes that align with its values and that franchisees can put their hearts and souls into.
