McDonald’s Canada joins global commitment to improve Happy Meal menu

McDonald’s is changing its Happy Meal menu to improve nutrition across 120 markets worldwide, including Canada.

By 2022, 50 per cent or more of the Happy Meal bundle offerings will meet the following criteria:

  • Fewer than or equal to 600 calories.
  • Less than or equal to 10 per cent of calories from saturated fat.
  • Fewer than or equal to 650 mg of sodium.
  • Less than or equal to 10 per cent of calories from added sugar.

“Families are at the heart of our business and Happy Meals are a huge part of what kids love about us,” says Antoinette Benoit, chief marketing officer (CMO) at McDonald’s Canada. “These changes are about continuing our brand’s evolution, meeting the needs and wants of our customers and using our reach to have a positive impact in communities coast-to-coast.”

In recent years, McDonald’s Canada has added yogurt and apple slices as Happy Meal options, limited beverage options to milk, water or juice and displayed nutritional information in restaurants, online and on its mobile app.
