The Toronto-based franchisor partnered with Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre to create a program to train and certify newcomers to work in the food and hospitality industry. Newcomers receive occupation-specific language training, food handling and safety training and learn about Canadian workplace culture.
“It is an honour to win an Employer Award for Newcomer Employment,” says Paramount’s CEO, Mohamad Fakih. “Like many others, I immigrated to Canada for the opportunity for a better life. I came with next to nothing, but with the help of this country and its citizens, I was able to apply myself and develop Paramount into what it is today. I always said it is part of Paramount’s DNA to give back to its community and that is why we reached out to help newcomers find employment. We want to be part of their integration, as they also came to Canada looking for a chance for a better life.”
