Subway Canada adds gluten-free bread

Food-service franchise system Subway Canada has added gluten-free bread to its menu to meet the changing dietary needs of customers.

All restaurants across the country will offer the bread until mid-February 2018. After that, individual franchisees will evaluate whether demand is strong enough to continue selling it.

“We’ve been testing gluten-free bread at a small number of our Canadian restaurants and the response has been very positive,” says Cristina Wells, senior marketing director at Subway Canada.

The bread is produced and packaged in a gluten-free facility, but Subway cannot guarantee a 100 per cent gluten-free experience because of the shared working surface its employees use.
