The Dwyer Group, a multi-brand franchisor, has awarded its 2018 Women in the Trades (WITT) scholarships to eight recipients, including Canadians Jacqueline Chouanard and Lauren Cassa.
The recipients were chosen based on outstanding work, experience, financial need and passion for their chosen trades. Chouanard, from Oshawa, Ont., is pursuing a master appliance repair technician certificate and works at Mr. Appliance, one of Dwyer Group’s brands. Cassa, from Hamilton, is pursuing a career in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).
“These women have shown commitment to advancing their careers in the service trades and we are proud to contribute to their continued success,” says Dina Dwyer-Owens, co-chair of The Dwyer Group.
WITT promotes the education and hiring of women for traditionally male-dominated roles in the trades. Scholarships are awarded to women working toward a trades career and/or for franchises under The Dwyer Group’s umbrella. The funding helps cover their tuition, books, travel and/or fees and can be applied at any accredited trade or technical school in Canada or the U.S.
To date, Dwyer Group has awarded $49,000 to 35 WITT recipients.
