On December 7, 1945, Irv Robbins opened his first ice cream shop in Glendale, Calif.
Today, 75 years later, his ice cream shop concept has grown to become one of the largest chains in its category and, in Canada, a leader with more than 100 locations. On the eve of its 75th anniversary, the brand is launching new varieties as part of its Flavour of the Month and seasonal menu programs.
With the holidays approaching, one of those new varieties is the Rosette Christmas Tree Cake. Meanwhile, the Flavour of the Month is Winter White Chocolate, making its seasonal appearance and featuring white chocolate flavoured ice cream with cherry pieces in a chocolate flavoured coating and a cherry swirl.
To end the year, Baskin-Robbins will again offer its Celebrate 31 promotion, a day during which customers can purchase any of its 13 pre-pack options with a price discount of 31 per cent.
“What a journey it has been,” says Natalie Joseph, representative for Baskin-Robbins in Canada. “To think that we now serve enough ice cream each day worldwide to fill 5000 Olympic swimming pools, is remarkable. It is a real treat to be a part of it all, and special thanks to our loyal customers for sticking with us all these years.”
Baskin-Robbins first set up shop in Canada in the summer of 1971. Plans for the franchise’s 50th anniversary north of the border will be announced in the new year.
