Special guests for the ribbon cutting ceremony included local Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Michael Chan and Markham’s director of economic development, Stephen Chait, who represented the mayor, Frank Scarpitti.
“We are proud to be at the forefront of downtown Markham development and our flagship store will be a showcase of our innovative drinks, store experience and services,” says Vincent Lau, CEO of Chatime for Ontario.
The 127 m² (1,367 sf) shop is the second business to open in the building. The flagship store’s design is different from the 11 other Ontario locations with its floor-to-ceiling windows and will also be the first to introduce the brand’s new products, technology and services.
The menu of more than 100 beverage choices includes bubble tea, a traditional Taiwanese beverage that blends tea and sweetened milk, shaken with ice and topped with tapioca balls. Suitable options for those new to tea are the grapefruit green tea and matcha tea latte; for the adventurous, the jasmine green tea mousse; and for tea connoisseurs, Taiwanese Alishan Jin Shyuan.
A new addition to the Chatime menu is Teair, a series of sparkling tea beverages. The company partnered with SodaStream to introduce 11 flavours of green tea, black tea and loose tea leaves, like Japanese Sakura Sencha, with customizable carbonation and sugar levels.
