Despite social distancing, 7-Eleven still serving up Slurpees

In the absence of giving out free Slurpees on 7-Eleven Day (July 11) in Canada, the company is offering coupons to 7Rewards members.

Given physical distancing measures put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19, 7-Eleven Canada will not celebrate 7–Eleven Day in stores this year.

7-Eleven traditionally celebrates its birthday by offering free Slurpees to customers on July 11. The 2020 edition of 7-Eleven Day will look a little different in order to prioritize the safety of team members and customers by celebrating at a distance.

“We would love to welcome all Canadians to our stores to celebrate 7-Eleven Day, but it just is not the responsible choice this year,” said 7-Eleven Canada vice-president and general manager Norman Hower. “This is the biggest day of our year, so we are disappointed to make the change, but we are excited about the ways we can celebrate responsibly, all month long.”

Even through a global pandemic, Canadians have several ways to get a great deal on their favourite beverage. Four $1 Slurpee coupons will be deposited into the accounts of all 7Rewards members on July 1 and will be valid all month long. Almost like a reverse Slurpee run, Canadians can have their Slurpee delivered to their homes this summer to celebrate, and get a buy one, get one (BOGO) Slurpee through Uber Eats and Skip the Dishes from July 6 to 12.

To further support the neighbourhoods impacted by COVID-19, 7-Eleven will match in-store cash donations up to $100,000 to Food Banks Canada with the goal of providing 500,000 meals to those in need.
