In recognition of Seniors’ Month, meal delivery franchise system Heart to Home Meals hosted a giveaway to promote the importance of nutrition at events in Southern and Eastern Ontario on June 13 and 14.
Hundreds of free frozen meals were made specifically for seniors and given away during the second annual giveaway. A recent poll conducted by Heart to Home Meals found 89 per cent of Ontario seniors say the ability to live independently brings or would bring them happiness, 62 per cent say not worrying about meal preparation would make them happy and 25 per cent say they have faced a barrier preparing or obtaining a nutritional meal in the last year.
“While it is great more and more seniors are choosing to live independently, it is of concern for our company and other organizations who serve seniors on a daily basis that one in four still have barriers to nutritional meals,” says Michael Gazer, president of Heart to Home Meals. “It is our hope the dialogue during and Seniors’ Month will keep the issues of nutrition and independence for the elderly at the forefront in this province.”
