Automotive franchisor OK Tire has plans to expand and relocate its Manitoba distribution centre as part of their $100-million Canada-wide expansion plan over the next five years.
The Manitoba distribution centre will be moved from Blumenort to Winnipeg.
“Relocating to Winnipeg is the first step in offering our existing and future dealers in Manitoba and parts of northwest Ontario an increased range of products along with reduced transit times,” said the organization’s logistics and distribution’s vice-president Tony Beck. “There are many potential new franchisee trade areas that exist in this region and the site provides a viable expanded circulation model.”
The Winnipeg facility will be operational by mid-June 2019 and will serve as a temporary location while the company works on the second phase of this project, a 9290.3-m2 (100,000-sf) distribution centre in central Winnipeg which is projected to be completed by 2023.
“Being better able to serve our dealers and our customers is at the core of this move,” said CEO and president Jim Caldwell. “We are expanding by approximately 30 dealers per year, so ensuring our centres are able to efficiently support this growth will help future-proof our business.”
The development plan will add more than 46,452 m2 (500,000 sf) to OK Tire’s network countrywide over the next five years. The distribution centre expansion is the first major initiative of OK Tire’s five-year growth plan and is the largest expansion in the company’s 66-year history.
