Customers can drop off their devices at participating Pizza Pizza restaurants and receive a free pepperoni or cheese slice of pizza. Eligible devices include old smartphones, digital cameras and MP3 players, which will be safely and securely recycled with help from the Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) and Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES).
“In this day and age, we are constantly upgrading our devices,” says Pat Finelli, Pizza Pizza’s chief marketing officer (CMO). “Not many people know how to properly dispose of them, so we are pleased we can help make it easy with Slices for Devices.”
Companies and schools can participate, as well, by signing up online. They can donate large items, such as computer towers, monitors and laptops, and receive a gift card to use toward a pizza party. Gift card value depend on the volume of devices dropped off.
Since 2004, Pizza Pizza has diverted more than 17,000 electronic devices from landfills. Proceeds from the process will go to the franchisor’s Slices for Smiles Foundation, which supports the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN).
