Smoke’s Poutinerie founder Ryan Smolkin hosted stars of the upcoming film Crazy Rich Asians at his downtown Toronto location to create what was dubbed the #CrazyRichPoutine.
Smolkin guided actors Ken Jeong, Awkwafina and Nico Santos through the creation of the poutine in front of an audience of food and film fans. The team started with Smoke’s signature Surf & Turf Poutine base, consisting of fries, cheese curds, gravy, lobster, and wagyu steak, but made the dish their own with the addition of truffle oil, caviar, kimchi, and shiitake and chanterelle mushrooms. The creation was garnished with edible orchids.
The decadent dish, which featured a whole lobster and $100-worth of edible gold flakes, was valued at $448.17.
“You’ve seen Surf & Turf Poutine before, but we just took it to an insane, never-seen-before level with our #CrazyRichPoutine,” said Smolkin. “This was truly a wicked opportunity to team up with the cast of Crazy Rich Asians and entertain our ‘Plaid Nation Fans’ with the World’s Richest Poutine!”
Fans in attendance sampled the #CrazyRichPoutine and met Jeong, Awkwafina and Santos before attending a red-carpet screening of the film.
