Sobeys Inc., has opened a new store in Timberlea, N.S.
During the grand opening week, specials, giveaways, food sampling, and in-store demos were available for shoppers. The company has also donated $2500 to Feed Nova Scotia to help local communities.
In addition, the store’s parking lot was revealed as one of the country’s first to be paved with post-consumer plastics that have been diverted from local landfills. This approach to materials reduction and reuse follows the brand’s commitment to remove plastic grocery bags from all stores by the end of January 2020.
For the past four months, Sobeys and Crombie Reit, developer and property manager for this location, worked directly with Goodwood Plastic Products to research and develop the asphalt pavement mixture. The store also has a picnic bench made from Goodwood’s recycled plastics lumber onsite for customers to enjoy.
“My team and I are proud to bring a new store to our local community,” said the store’s manager, Troy Goulden. “We invite neighbours and families to visit the location and experience our great features like the pharmacy, fresh salad and noodle bars, store-made sushi, and a large assortment of delicious, freshly prepared meals for busy families.”
