Nearly 200 Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCAs), humane societies, rescue groups and shelters will bring an array of adoptable pets into more than 130 PetSmart stores. The franchisor hopes 1,500 pets will get adopted.
“Pet transport is emerging as a standard practice in animal welfare to help alleviate overcrowded kennels in source shelter communities by relocating pets to destination shelters in areas where demand for adoptable pets is extremely high,” says David Haworth, president of PetSmart Charities of Canada. “It is a win for all parties involved. Most of the transported pets will have a new lease on life and a great chance at finding a forever home they deserve.”
